Let's Talk About Reprocessing
“Reprocessing” is the term we use to describe when we take unpaid DSP usage data from prior distribution periods and process it again using our most recent set of musical works data. We do this every month to try and find new matches, and to make sure you receive all the royalties you are owed for any new songs you’ve registered with The MLC and any updates you’ve made to your existing registrations. In short, reprocessing ensures that you receive all the royalties you are entitled to receive for uses of your songs!
Since we began full operations at the beginning of this year, Members have submitted more than 6 million works registrations (adding or amending songs), an increase to our database of more than 30 percent!
Because so many of you have registered new works and updated your existing works data, we’ve now been able to match more than $11 million in additional mechanical royalties through our reprocessing efforts so far this year. That, in turn, has increased the match rates for each monthly distribution period through August to between 85 and 87 percent. Thank you for Playing Your Part!
The match rate for a given usage period refers to the percentage of royalties sent to us by DSPs that we are able to match to musical works registered in our database.
