Protecting Yourself Against Fraud

Email Communications

All official emails originating from The MLC will always end in “@themlc.com.” Even if an email has “MLC” somewhere in the address, it is not a valid MLC email without that “@themlc.com” handle. For example, themlcroyalties@gmail.com is not a valid email address from The MLC.

If you receive an email from someone claiming to be from The MLC, be sure to look for the “@themlc.com” handle in the address first. If that handle is missing from the email address, don’t click on any links in the email. Furthermore, if anything looks strange or incorrect in the email itself – misspelled words, your name not appearing, links that don’t appear to go to the right place  –  please immediately forward the suspicious email to support@themlc.com

Telephone Communications

Scammers may also try to obtain information about your accounts or security credentials over the phone. If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from The MLC and that individual is requesting your account information or Portal security credentials, immediately hang up and contact The MLC’s Support Team at 615-488-3653 or online here.

Website and Portal Branding

This logo is present on all official pages on The MLC’s website:

 MLC_PrimaryLogo_RGB

Similarly, both The MLC’s website and The MLC Portal feature color schemes comprised primarily of these four colors:

light blue dot    dark blue dot      yellow dot     red dot

Keep that logo and color scheme in mind, because if you ever come across or are directed to a website purporting to be The MLC’s that does not include the official logo and our color scheme, it may be a fraudulent site that has been created outside The MLC. This also applies to screenshots of the website or Portal that you may receive via email. If you come across suspicious websites that claim to be related to The MLC, please report them to our Support Team.

Portal Security

As outlined in the Portal Terms of Use, The MLC Portal users are solely responsible for any Member information they provide to The MLC. Any person with access to the Portal is also responsible for protecting against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure of information provided to The MLC and is responsible for all access to and use of the Portal.

That means that you are solely responsible for the confidentiality of your account and your password and restricting computer access. You should never provide any individuals access to your MLC Member account or information unless they are an authorized user (i.e., a Super User, Finance User, or Copyright User), and you should always log out of the Portal at the completion of each visit if you’re using a public or shared device.

If you suspect that your account has been breached or is no longer secure – such as in the event of a loss, theft or unauthorized disclosure or use of your username and/or password – remember to immediately notify The MLC and report the incident to your applicable bank or financial institution.
