Junior Music Rights Week: October 11-15
By the time the initiative concludes, participants will have gained a basic understanding of music copyrights, mechanical licensing and their rights as young copyright holders, as well as valuable insight into how teenage music creators just like them create revenue streams by uploading original music to websites and social media apps.
Junior Music Rights Week will feature:
- A “Music, Rights and Money for Teen Artists” webinar on Monday, October 11 at 5 p.m. CT that will cover the basics of music copyrights, digital music royalties and music use for the internet, social media, film and TV in order to establish a foundational understanding of music business concepts and rightsholder entitlements. - A virtual pop quiz called “So You Think You Know Music Rights” that will be administered to participants on Tuesday, October 12 and is comprised of multiple-choice questions pulled from topics addressed during the “Music, Rights and Money for Teen Artists” webinar the day before.
- A “Teens in Music Roundtable” webinar on Thursday, October 14 at 5 p.m. CT, during which Serona Elton – The MLC’s Head of Educational Partnerships – will moderate a candid conversation with 6-8 young music creators about creating and releasing music, the challenges those creators face and more. “El MLC en Español” and Junior Music Rights Week are both an important part of The MLC’s ongoing efforts to reach all rightsholders who may be eligible to receive digital audio mechanical royalties from The MLC for the use of their music by digital service providers, educate them about The MLC and our work and facilitate those rightsholders becoming Members so they can collect those royalties. We encourage you to join us for these great initiatives!
