Annual Membership Meeting Recap
Our first Annual Membership Meeting gave us the chance to introduce The MLC Team, provide a comprehensive overview of some of the key aspects of our operations, and take a look forward at our plans for the year ahead – all of which exemplify our commitment to transparency. After previewing The MLC’s new explainer video, The MLC’s Board Chair, Alisa Coleman, officially called the meeting to order and provided some opening remarks. She then handed things over to CEO Kris Ahrend who led members through seven different topics. Kris was joined by several other members of The MLC’s Leadership Team, including Ellen Truley (Chief Marketing Officer), Serona Elton (Head of Educational Partnerships), Lindsey Major (Head of Customer Experience), Maurice Russell (Head of Rights Management) and Indi Chawla (Head of International Relations).
Here are some of the key metrics we shared during the meeting:
- The MLC has now completed 8 monthly royalty distributions (all on-time or early) and distributed more than $250 million in digital audio mechanical royalties to Members.
- Thanks to reprocessing, our match rates for previous distributions have all increased from 80% in our first monthly distribution to more than 86% for each of our first four distributions (January, February, March, and April) and more than 85% for the next three (May, June, and July).
- The MLC is now distributing royalties received from 40 digital service providers (DSPs) operating under the blanket license established by the Music Modernization Act.
- The MLC now has 15,451 Members, an increase of almost 8,000 since January.
- The MLC has received 6.14 million musical works registrations since January and processed more than 97% of those registrations.
- The total number of musical works in The MLC’s database is now more than 23 million.
- The MLC’s Support Team has handled more than 22,000 inquiries since January – which works out to almost 2,500 inquires per month and 72 inquiries per day.
- The MLC has now hosted 258 webinars in its history, and attendance for those webinars now tops 25,000 - including participants from all 50 U.S. states and more than a dozen countries around the world.
- The MLC now has more than 15,000 followers across all of its social networks, and The MLC’s two newsletters have a total circulation of more than 20,000 individuals.
